AAA has chosen a 1:1 iPad program for many reasons.
First, the learning possibilities are already endless and growing daily! Since the iPad was designed with education in mind, the amount of education-related apps available to teachers to make their classes more fun, engaging, applicable and interactive number in the thousands. New textbooks are being added in digital format everyday, allowing AAA to spend less money on textbooks and less bodily harm on our students as they carry heavy backpacks to school. And these digital textbooks are more than just photographs of the pages - they're virtual classrooms in themselves, many of them filled with links to games and websites to enhance the learning of the current lesson.
Second, tablets allow for students raised in the hyper-stimulation of the digital age to focus more on the task at hand. Whereas a laptop allows for any number of windows and applications to run simultaneously, a tablet typically only runs one major application at a time. This allows the students to be less distracted, and becomes more obvious to the teacher when students are off-task (i.e. the hand movements will be different for different applications).
Third, upgrades in the latest versions of the iPad allow for better classroom application, such as the ability to project the screens on a projector, printing capabilities, note-taking apps, external keyboards (optional at AAA) and accurate writing styli if hand-written notes are needed. There are standard word processing, spreadsheet and digital presentation apps included standard, as well.
While the specific uses of the iPads and apps will evolve over the next few years, AAA is proud to keep up with the technological currents - and remain at the forefront...as education innovators
